Now Look Here!
I laugh to watch the people
As they slowly pass our home…
There’s no doubt they’ve heard some stories
Of the crazy Duff’s that roam.
With seven kids we’re strange
And home-schooling makes us weird.
Our strong beliefs are evil
And our ideas are often feared.
I smirk at those who wonder
How we ever “socialize?”
Just the idea that family is fun
Often comes as a surprise.
I, personally, would rather
Talk to elders than my peers
And discuss deep world issues
Though I often see the jeers
Of people who look down at me
Because I’m not their age;
They listen, but with refusing ears;
I guess it’s the “cute” stage.
Why can’t some people listen
Or even try to see?
That since I’m schooling here at home
Makes a more attentive me.
Would you listen if I dressed
Just like all the other teens?
Would you liked me if I talked
About ordinary things?
But no, I will not change
Though it makes me sad to see
That though they teach of “people’s rights”,
I guess they don’t apply to me.

Indeed, most people in our age group are awfully shallow. I've found that alot of kids resented the fact that I was 3 or 4 grades ahead of them throughout school.
Public schoolers don't understand homeschoolers at all... I've had them actually get mad at me cause I was in a higher grade. I have a friend who's public schooled and we plan on going to each others schools this year. I'd go to Renton High School (known around her as Renton get High school) with her and she'd come to Bellevue Community College with me. WE'll see how that goes....
don't know Emily... I went to public school until the 6th grade and I think I understood all my real friends (they were all homeschooled before me) but then again I guess you would just have to give me your description of “understand” lol
well, you're not an ordinary, average girl to start with, and i think it's a good thing you are homeschooled, since in my hometown when i was your age, the schools were not set up to challenge kids that were aspiring to be more than the loggers, fishermen or millwrights (or their wives) that their parents were.
the school system here has evolved somewhat, but is still not as good as it could be.
with homeschool, your parents have way more incentive to make sure you get a good education! heck with the "it takes a village" garbage, it takes good parents first!
