Daddy...

Someday when I am old enough,
A hero I will be;
Just like all those other soldiers,
Who sail across the sea.

I’ll join the Navy;
Stand up tall, and wear my stripes with pride,
And when the time comes to protect,
I’ll sail along the tide.

They say I’m like my daddy;
In most every single way.
So when I get to be his size,
I’ll enlist that very day.

My daddy is a hero;
So strong and proud and kind,
He serves his country in the kind of way
A man to man may bind.

Though my dad didn’t come home
From war some years ago,
I still remember his strong kind spirit,
And this one thing I know;

No matter who you’re daddy is,
Red, yellow, black or white,
He should always be forever
Your model, soldier, and knight.

Very good! I'm a retired Navy Chief, my daughter did not go into the Navy. She joined the Army Reserves and spent a year in Iraq. She is my hero. I just hope that my service was an inspiration to her.

let's see... another Ernie commented on here I think... was that you? Thanks anyway! And especially for yours and your daughter's service; it means so much to me that you people would willingly go out and fight for our freedom. You sacrifice so much and America salutes you for your service. Navy, Marines, Coast guard, Army, or Air Force, they all rock!

Glad you found my blog. may I suggest that you start one of your own? :)

Yes, I had a "poem surge" the other day and typed that out. glad you think it's good.:)

What a wonderful poem. My favorite verse is the third one, it makes me think of my son. Not only is he my husband's twin, he says daily he wants to grow up and be a soldier just like his dad. Thank you so much for sharing that with us!
