Hot weather
Yes, it’s been one of most the popular topics of discussion among friends, on the internet, or even on the national news these past couple days. It’s just downright HOT, and for those of who sit here without air conditioning, it’s rather hard not to think about anything except the scorching heat that’s spread across the U.S. this summer.
Unfortunately for us, Nebraska happens to be one of the hottest states in the U.S., with the past week setting records with 100 degree weather, plus extremely thick humidity. So this afternoon I decided to refresh my plants which, while sorely neglected through my laziness, have suffered the blazing sun and now dry, crunchy ground. I was fully aware that the temperature was at 101.5 degrees F, and yet I bravely stepped outside to do my duty. Ten minutes later I staggered through the door, my face red, aching, and dripping with sweat, with only one thought on my mind: ICE.
Have I not failed to arouse your sympathy at my plight? Of course, I could go on and on about my un-air-conditioned bedroom on the second floor, our rickety old car which feels like a sauna after ten minutes in the sun, or my clothes and hair which are always wet with either sweat or humidity, but that just wouldn’t be right.
You see, I am not being chased by evil lunatics. I am not forced to cloak myself with heavy, hot Kevlar suits or military gear. I always have the freedom to take a cool shower or dip in our pool when I please, and drinks and food are always close by. I am not coated in sand or dust, and my house provides more than adequate shelter from hot or dusty winds. So when I consider these facts, I have only one thing left to say…
It can’t be HALF as bad as Iraq!

May God bless our troops…

I can sympathize with you - its been nearly as hot here and our AC is broken. What a great parallel though. The next time I'm tempted to complain about the heat, I'll just remember our troops in Iraq who are suffering from so much more.
Here's a soldier you should read more about:

Sorry that page does not exist on this site.
maybe you can find that again.
I was about to come back with, "That's nothing"
But I can't do that now.
Great post.
Sounds like Texas decided to pay ya'll a visit.
I think Bagdad is consistantly among the hottest cities on earth.
Oh, anon.
Its a good article.
Your point?
Ah,
My bad,
My browser didn't add the second line of the link.
I have to agree with Palm Boy.
What purpose did that have.
I see no revelence to this post.
the purpose is to share with all of you who support the troops to read an opinion that might differ from your own.
...
You hate the War on Terror. Check.
You essentially hate Bush. Check.
You hate being in Iraq. Check.
But you support the troops....
Check.
that's right. glad you figured it out.
Anon: "the purpose is to share with all of you who support the troops to read an opinion that might differ from your own."
Translation: "The purpose is to stir up an intense argument by commenting on something that has almost zero connection with the post or discussion."
Anon's thinking behind all this: "I see a post that can be considered political, however remote, I'll do a quick search to find something that contridicts their views. Therebye getting them mad and in an argueing mood. It may not be connected at all to her praise the troops, but it'll do. In fact, the only connection to her post was that it has to do with the troops. Oh well, No matter. It'll get them upset and that's all that counts"
That's my opinion anyway.
Good Post:
As I sit down here in the NW Florida Panhandle, I note that it is cooler here than in many northern and midwestern areas. And yes, few of us realize that we have it a lot better than those who are defending us in Iraq.

LOL, well put, and this is from someone who was there for 15 months, and going back. Overall, great blog. Keep up the good work and thank you for your support for myself and my brothers in arms. Remember to keep visiting Tankerbrothers.com and dont forget to sign the Battle Roster!
I think we all better used to these scorching summers. Global warming is a reality and we're just getting started.
If you haven't seen AL Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth", I urge you to do so. Even though I knew most of the science already, it was still a real eye-opener.
BTW, did you see that even Pat Robertson is now saying that global warming has been so well established by the science that he is no longer going to question it?
But doesn't that also then imply a responsibility to do something about it?
