Flight 93

Last night my family and I watched the movie Flight 93 for the first time. To be honest, I was not looking forward to it, knowing that it would not make for a relaxing evening. But I, along with most other Americans, desperately needed the reminder of what kind of evil America is facing, as well as to (if only for a moment) place myself in the shoes of the families of the 9/11 victims.

I will make no complaints about this movie, though I think we could have spared some of our better actors to portray the characters in such an important film. I am just happy they made a movie about 9/11 (five years later, it’s a bit overdue) and didn’t mess it up. The unfolding of events remained the same as of 9/11, the characters were portrayed as the noble, yet normal citizens that I have no doubt they were, and they never even mentioned President Bush, which I consider a good thing.

One thing of the movie that startled me was the actors who played the parts of the terrorists; and how easily they fit into the crowd with their clean shaven faces and western clothes. I believe there are many middle easterns who could easily pass off as Americans, and that thought alone I find unnerving.

Before I watched the film I expected to be crying through the whole thing, when actually, the calm ignorance and lack of realization of the people on the ground kept my heart pounding as I waited for the heartbreak that I knew was coming. In the end, as the names of the 44 passengers that died on flight 93 went across the screen, I had to leave the room as the realization of how real, and how horrifying that day was took a toll on my emotions.

It was a hard movie to watch, but one I would definitely recommend for every American citizen to see; so that we might remember, and

NEVER FORGET

Did you know that like, 70% of the actors in the movie played "as himself" or "herself"! Seriously! That's why they didn't use actors for most of the parts...they used the real people. (Obviously besides the people on the plane.)

watch the credits again and you'll see!

I loved the movie!

Ummm, have you ever spent a day in Dearborn, Michigan? Or suburban D.C.? There are HUGE Arab populations, where you DO IN FACT see regular "middle easterners" "passing off" as Americans as you put it. mainly because almost all of them ARE everyday Americans.

You need to stop thinking that terrorists can only be of middle eastern or Arab descent. That happens to be where the 9/11 terrorists came from, but that doesnt mean you should associate all "middle easterners" with the possibility of terrorism.

I'll have to agree with Annonomous. Many middle eastern people are indeed US citizens, as we have people from well nigh every race as US citizens.

Where I do disagree with Anon:
The people that attacked us on Sept. 11 were arab muslims, as are the terrorists in Iraq blowing up civies, and those in Isreal blowing up Civies.

Oh, on a different note.

Do you recomend the film?

I think the use of non-famous actors was brilliant. It gave it that touch of reality it deserved.

I was a "good" film in as much as it portrayed the events in an accurate way, and left me feeling sick all over agin.

I want to see World Trade Center, but I think I'll need to consume alcohol before seeing it, or wait until it comes out on HBO, so I can blubber alone.

Once I heard that most of the actors were the real people, I agree it really did add a certain quality to the movie! And when I think about it, I don't think I would have had the talent or strength to play the part. That must have been very hard for them to relive...

Anon.;
Sure, America is home to a very wide variety of people. But though I knew the terrorists wouldn't wear middle eastern garb, somehow we kind of stick a picture in our minds of what a terrorist would look like, and it's just a little startling to realize how easily they fit into our society without anyone noticing.

Jenn,
I too, would like to visit all the memorials someday. It would be hard... but for many of us, watching movies and visiting memorials about 9/11 is what it will take for us to remember, for it is all too easy to forget when our lives are still so comfortable.
