What do YOU love about America?
If you are a democrat/liberal/secularist/anti-war protester, I would like you to very seriously consider the question at the top of this post. It seems that all the liberals have to say about America is negative; Bush is awful, the war is wrong, the conservatives need to shut up, etc. ect. And the argument brought up by several (or maybe it’s the same guy; it’s hard to tell) anonymous commenters on my war-related posts is that in defending the Iraq war I am not being patriotic, and they of course feel that they are patriots in opposing it. Now, I still don’t see how opposing our cause in Iraq is patriotic, (it simply strikes me as cowardly) and after all the liberals in the U.S. have to say about us (conservatives) and even the country they live in, you start to wonder if they are for America or against it. It’s extremely difficult to tell now, and I applaud you if you are able to find something that a liberal likes, or even loves, about America’s foundation. They obviously have no respect for the constitution or the men that wrote it, and when you tear away the constitution (including the Holy Bible, which was the guide of more than one man who risked his life to worship God in peace) well, then, there really isn’t much left. After all, patriotism means a deep love of one’s country; to be dedicated to and willing to die for your country one first must feel an appreciation for it.
I would like to keep this post short, as the response of my readers is more important than my one cry for true patriotism (though I pray that my words would really hit home on this issue). What do you love about America? What people, situations and decisions in our country do you appreciate? Just this once, let’s take a break from all the heated, stressful “politically correct” commentaries on America’s problems, and let’s focus on what America does/has done right. What do you love about your country?

There are so many things I love about about this Country.
I guess I'll start with our foundation.
Our freedoms ( of speech, religion, jury trial, guns, voting....)
The way our government is set up (checks and balances, a republic...)
our ability to make our voice heard, wether it be by speaking, or even as simple as voting.
The ability to hold our own beliefs, and debate them.
The opportunity available to become what you dream of becomming.
The fact that Over a Million soldiers have died in defense of freedom and our country.
and the list goes on and on...:)
America is great because(1. it was based on solidly Christian principles, such as Freedom, Liberty, and Morality. (Liberty is an explicitly Christian idea by the way, and is rarely found in non-Christian countries.)
(2. because Christians are free to worship God with few Governmental regulations,
(3. because it encourages free market economics,
(4. because we can own beautiful guns.
etc.,etc.,
As far as America has strayed from these foundational principles, it has strayed from Greatness. America isn't perfect...but I am certainly thankful to God for the Liberties we still have.
I like America because despite its many problems its better than anywhere else.
I also like the fact that if someone were to nuke me that their entire country would be turned into a radio-active wasteland.

In America, anyone with a good work ethic and a drive to suceed can become wealthy.
What I love about America--
-freedom to worship, vote, speak, debate without fear of arrest
-System of checks/balances on people in power
-Willingness to help people
In America, everyone has a right to hold an opinion, and voice that opinion through their vote and speech and assembley.
Also, everyone is free to practice any religion they want, without being oppressed for it.
America allows for individuals to have choices in their lives.
America's public education system allows every citizen the right to an education and an avenue to succeed.
I am thankful that the American home school movement is healthy and growing. I would disagree with Anon about "America's public education system allowing every citizen the right to an education and an avenue to succeed", but Jen wanted this to be a positive post, so I will resist.
Well, the comment re: public schools is geared towards many children who are living in homes with unconcerned, drug-addict, overworked, or unprepared parents and "home-schooling" is not an option. Where parents work 2 and 3 jobs to keep food on the table and bills paid. Their only avenue out is through an education. I guess I'm thinking mainly about inner-city environments like the Bronx, or Detroit, but i'm sure there are similar situations in rural places too.
But, as I also stated, this country allows "choices" -- so your family is able to "choose" to home-school the children. This choice, though I disagree with the theory, is a right enjoyed by our citizens which i am proud of.
