The war on terror: who's to blame?

At our church (PCA) the majority of the families attending hold very conservative views on dress, politics, etc. But there are also a few mixed opinions as well, and we were handed several liberal, anti-Bush magazines by a man there who has very strong views against the war, and obviously on our President as well.

Walking into our living room I spotted the headline on one of the “New American” magazines; “Bring ‘em home!” and other snippets on the front cover included “Iraq war fallacies” and a poetic strip across the front; “that freedom shall not perish”. I got a little too excited reading this, so please excuse me if this post seems too rash.

Flipping through it my eye caught a picture of a U.S. soldier shaking hands with a little Iraqi girl with the photo caption; “like these soldiers chatting with an Iraqi family, nearly all of our troops genuinely want to help the people of that nation. They are not responsible for the unconstitutional and morally unsupportable policies of the Bush administration.”

Just in this short caption alone you can catch the hatred for our President, which seems to be the main theme of the whole magazine. What struck me first was their admittance to our soldiers longing to help these people (obviously a noble, worthy cause) and then they go on to say that the Bush administration somehow did something unconstitutional by sending in our troops to help these people (not to mention their own American people!).

Please help me to see the reason in this point… if there is any.

More to come on this later…
Jennifer

Wow... That's totally disgusting. I can't believe that guy at your church would do that! You must've been so creeped out!

Argh, some people in this world...

While I have not read the article, I believe the point is that the US should not be in Iraq. Soldiers wanting to help the people there is not a good enough reason. Bringing democracy is not a good enough reason.

The administration lied to the Americian people, to congress, to the world. The put out false evidence, not just evidence that was later proven faulty, but intel that was already disproved.

They went in without international approval, violating world laws against unilateral intervention. The list of reasons this war is wrong goes on and on.

There are many, many Christians who are against the war in Iraq. And many are just as conservative as you are. How do I know this, well I'm a member of a Mennonite church where every member is against the war in Iraq. For Mennonites, being against the war is a non-issue, as Mennonites believe in non-violence. Violence and war, are not the right way to settle any dispute. Show your faith by your deeds and actions, not by the gun.
