Patriotism: More or less?

In her book “Treason” which I just started, Ann Coulter reveals how unpatriotic those who denounce our constitution and rights as a people really are.

“The ACLU responded to the 9-11 terrorist attack by threatening to sue schools that hung GOD BLESS AMERICA signs. Is the ACLU more or less patriotic than the Daughter of the American Revolution? Public schools across the nation prohibited the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. Is it more patriotic or less patriotic to prevent schoolchildren from saying the Pledge of Allegiance? University professors called patriotic Americans “naive” and described patriotism as a “benign umbrella for angry people.” Is it more patriotic to love your country or ridicule those who do as “naive” and “angry” ? These are not questions impenetrable to human logic.”

Those who oppose the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance, the honor of the constitution, or the rights of all people can defend themselves all they want. It’s obvious that in their denouncing speech and heated debates that they care nothing for the welfare of this country, and one who opposes his own country can surely not be for it.

It seems to me that in your eyes, anyone who disagrees with your viewpoints is unpatriotic. I find that a tad disturbing.

what is "unpatriotic" is to send soldiers off to die for lies.

what is "unpatriotic" is to sit idly and NOT question the actions of a politician when those acts are wrong.

Also, you should realize that "patriotism" and "nationalism" are 2 different things.

A good book on this is by Chris Hedges, War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning. he deals with facts and historical perspectives of war and cultures, rather than throw names around like Ms. Coulter.

Clive you need to learn how to read. Your comprehension skills are low. No where did the host say what you just tried to say the host said.

"chicken" anonymous - Arthur Kauffman - what ever you want to call your self-

It is "unpatriotic" to send soldiers off to die for lies, it is "unpatriotic" to sit idly and NOT question a politician whose acts are wrong.

But since your ability to determine who is lieing and who is not is way, way out of wack. You are too coward to speak without doing so anonymously, you are in to cowardly to advise anyone who when it is right to fight or wrong to fight.

NO one sent these people. They all volunteered. Because they KNOW right from wrong and are not cowards to stand up and fight!

War is a judgement of God. God used America to crush a brutal British hold on America. God used America to destroy a force that enslaved black men, women and children in the South. God used America to destroy Hitler who killed 6 million of God's chosen people, the Jews. God used America to take out the man-god Hirohito and his army responsible for the rape of Nanjing. God is using America to take out a mad man who has killed 300,000 of his own people and who has attacked his neighbors. And God is using America to take out Islamic fanatics who attacked Manhatten, Washington DC killing thousands of people in only an hour's time.

Your extreme ignorance blinds you. Both of you.

Psalm 14:1, "The fool says in his heart, there is no God".

David just called you a name, not me...

RG, I re-read the original post and fail to see how my opinion is wrong. Clearly my low comprehension skills are the cause. Care to explain in terms I can understand?

Clive...
In the specific context of the original post, she called those "who denounce our constitution and rights" as being unpatriotic.

Patriotism is not following Bush, John Kerry, Congress, or the Supreme Court, or anyone.
The historic definition of patriotism is to stand up for the Freedoms and Ideals of one's native country.

It's not worth our time to get all bent out of shape about, or emotionally attached to, President Bush...or Hillary Clinton...or the RollingStones...or anyone. These are just mere people. One day they'll grow old and die.

I'd prefer to see people debate the ideas that each of these people defend. I'd prefer to see ya'll debate the facts and not the feelings.

"Who cares if you like Bush...what has he done correct, AND what has he done incorrect."

"Who cares if you like Hilary Clinton...what has she done correct, AND what has she done incorrect."

I've been reading on here for quite some time, and I havn't seen anyone give a well rounded opinion on any political figure...i.e. specifically describe the strengths and the faults of that person in detail.

To cap this up...Clive, I can simpathize with you. I very often see people calling those who disagree with them as being "unpatriotic"...especially in the "conservative" camp. Yet, in the context of this specific article, I don't think that that was the case.
