Culture

This is for MDG

It’s funny how two cultures
Tend to eat so differently;
It’s funny how the westerns
Take so well to Kimchi.

At first it looks like cabbage
With a nice tomato sauce.
And so they, smiling, load their plates
Without thinking of the cost.

Before the food is in their mouths
They know something isn’t right…
They start to turn a crimson red
Once the food is out of sight.

They swallow but it doesn’t help;
They clutch their throats in pain.
Their faces go from red to white
As they now appear insane.

They try to smile nicely
At their worried Asian guest
And they wonder if it’s custom
To eat all of the rest.

They finally got it off their plates
So as not to appear rude
But they solemnly decided
Not to eat the Asians food.

Thanks for the dedication, Jen. Kimchi is yummy, as long as you are eating it with the right foods.

Being half-Filipino, I have had a lot of asian friends over the years, and also going to high school in Hawaii exposed me to a pan-asian atmosphere of cuisine.

At certain restaurants in Hawaii, you can have Japanese style Katsu Chicken with a side of Korean Kimchi, Filipino lumpia and a bowl of Vietnamese pho' soup. Multiethnic foods are mixed quite often in Hawaii.

Bummer...now I am hungry...gonna have to settle for some girl scout cookies.
