A Medieval Christ
Somewhere in the ruins
Of a crumbled fallen town
Bends a faithful knight in his armor bright
Over his lady in a crimson gown.
This seemingly strong castle
With it’s large and heavy gates;
Though none could think of foes so large
They’ve tumbled at fast rates.
In a far and high up tower
Was a fair and helpless maid
That when the dragon crushed her home
She stood frightened and afraid.
No castle for protection;
That did not help her cause
And the army once around her
Had perished in his claws.
She trembled in a corner
As the dragon spewed his fire
And wondered in a world so fragile
How to escape from such a mire.
So as she trembled and prepared for death
There came a rider upon the hill;
His white horse rearing and sword upraised
And both ready for a kill.
Just before the dragon reared
To slay the pretty maid
The knight rode between the captive and foe
To do what chivalry bade.
Through the fight by prince and beast
The knight took pain for her-
His lady that he swore protection
When his knightly heart did stir.
And in the end, with the dragon dead,
And victory obtained
The prince bent down to comfort her-
His aching body strained.
He took her up upon his horse
To ride with evermore;
To never let the maiden fear
Of evil things that soar.
This poem is meant a picture
Of the helpless beings we are
Of how large Satan seems to be;
Though Christ outweighs by far.
So where’s your knight when trouble comes
And crushes down your home?
For it’s not from earth, but heaven above
That the lifelong protectors come.
