Recital... :)
So yesterday was my dance recital. I got to the studio at 11:00 to have a quick warm-up and have Mrs. Spykstra do my makeup. Then it was lunch and everyone showed up at the auditorium to get ready. I stood around nervously until 1:15 when we all got dressed. The worst part was listening to all the people in the audience... at 2:00, after trying to calm my nerves and take deep breaths, we all lined up for our Vivaldi's seasons dances. Aly and I were the second dance on the program; winter. Then came Mother Ginger, where I danced with all the little girls in the class I assist Mrs. Spykstra in (the crowd really loved the little girls), then our pointe Mirlitons dance and finally our liturgical dance; All things new by Steven Curtis Chapman. I really enjoyed dancing!!! There were a few parts I was a little shaky on but otherwise I was really happy with it. And apparently some people, even some guys (!) had cried at the All things new dance so that's great we got such a reaction. Then after meeting family and friends I waited about an hour for the modern dance recital to get started. We were dressing in the kitchen with some High Schoolers from the modern recital... I can see why some guys are disgusted with girls when they are around girls like that. The things they talked about were certainly not worth listening to... and they could have been a little bit quieter. So after a little while our teacher left the room and we started to get ready for our first dance; Mirlitons. We had all just got on our tutus and crowns when one of the organizers pops here head into our room and goes; " okay winter and summer now!" and we just panic because we don't know where Mrs. Spykstra is and we thought Mirlitons was first. So here we are, tearing off our costumes and dressing in our seasons going "where is she?" and desperately trying to find pieces of our costumes. Then all of a sudden one of the girls looks at the program and finds out that the lady was just confused and Mirlitons actually was first. So again we tear off our costumes and frantically pull on our costumes and pointe shoes. By the time Mrs. Spykstra shows up we are finally calmed down a bit and explained to her how we had just undressed from Mirlitons into seasons, and then back into Mirlitons in under two minutes. At first she didn't believe us but we assured her it actually happened and begged her not to leave. So in the end we did both our dances without too many mishaps. Then mom and Emi pick me up and we go out for ice cream. We got home at 10:00 and I got in bed around 10:30, exhausted but very happy about our recital!! And it was hard to get to sleep while thinking about it, Leah.
So. I suppose you weren't expecting such a detailed account of a day in my life. But you got it!
Tired and happy and loving dance,
Jennifer
P.S. I hope you don't find the pictures annoying...
